I would say that the main selling point that separates Spider-Man 2 from the previous games is the ability to swap back and forth between Peter Parker and Miles Morales throughout your playthrough.

It’s a feature that can admittedly feel a little gimmicky on the surface. Especially when you consider the fact that, in the previous games, Peter and Miles seem to have pretty similar movement and combat mechanics.

It’s easy to think, “What’s the point of swapping between two characters that have nearly identical movesets?”.

And yeah, their base combat mechanics are similar, but in this new game, Insomniac has worked to make sure that Peter and Miles have very different special abilities (with Peter’s abilities seeing the most change).

This really goes a long way with making each character feel unique to control, but not so different that one Spider-Man feels significantly better or worse than the other .

And I personally found that swapping characters kept the combat from ever becoming stale.

And that was important, because to me, the boss fights seemed quite a bit more challenging than in the previous games, but I never got frustrated because the combat continuously felt fresh and fun throughout.
