REVIEW:
One thing this challenge is great for, is demanding commited play of the more fringe titles that decorate my walls. Super SWIV demanded plenty. Early playthroughs built considerable anxiety for a potential 9 or even the coveted 10/10 difficulty rating! Mercifully a far easier final 2 levels & stockpiles of sub weapons meant the war only registered around a 7, tho a few new shrapnel wounds have appeared in my coffee table!

What the hell is 'Swiv' anyway? Sounds more like a toilet cleaner! Well in Super form its a challenging & commendably made, 6 stage, 8-way vertical shooter, controlling either a ground level Jeep, or helicopter as player two. Both offer their own advantages, tho it's a shame you're stuck with the jeep unless playing 2 player.

Tho a big shooter fan, I admit to a prejudiced toward any not piloting some form of aircraft. It's petty but there's an unfair preconception attached to land based shumps controlling terribly. While far from a reality here, there's still margin for improvement. The biggest handicap is the Jeeps twitchy response. When the gameplay demands more delicate movement, particularly on bosses, the slight jerky behaviour is responsible for many obscenities, especially stage 3 where you finish the level battling a particularly nasty boss on water piloting an even more twitchy gunboat!

Most sane gamers would throw in the towel after multiple failed introductions to stage 2's boss. Those determined enough to reach stages 3 or 4 are real gluttons for punishment, & its rightly delivered! Thankfully boss success comes far easier than first playthroughs would suggest thanks to payloads of sub weapons. Grinding the game enough to memorize the many powerup locations is the key to success.

Despite a lack of difficulty settings rendering gameplay too taxing for some casual players, the payoff for those willing to suffer is well recieved. The arsenal is exciting, the gameplay varied & the challenge rewarding. Tho given the lack of continues it's a punishing grind to beat!

My 2 yr old daughter joined the fun right at the end & as any good parent does, I let her run riot while I took down the final boss!
