#643 Ehrgeiz (PS1) Exclusive Hidden Characters (2/5): Vincent Valentine playthrough.
A playthrough of the exclusive hidden character Vincent Valentine in the PS1 port of Ehrgeiz.
Now this is more like it. Vincent is a model-swap of Godhand, essentially, but he honestly fits right at home in this game. He has a flurry of good combos at his disposal, as well as a wonderfully cheap gun which knocks down the opponent, and can even combo them in the air if your timing is right. He's rather cheap, therefore, but still certainly quite a bit of fun to play as, even if he is essentially the 3D equivalent of a palette-swap.
Vincent's inclusion, from what I can tell, seems to pertain to the fact that he, Zack and Yuffie are all hidden elements of FF7, as I've explained a few times before. Yuffie and him are both hidden characters, and Zack is something of a plot-twist. Yuffie and Vincent could be missed entirely in the FF7 if you weren't careful enough, as you had to go a bit off the beaten path to get them. Hidden characters in RPGs were quite a short lived thing, and in all honesty I'm glad. It took 8 years (EIGHT, YEARS) after finishing Breath of Fire II for me to find out about the hidden character in that game, Bleu. Hidden bosses I can understand; that's getting a new challenge you never knew about, but hidden characters means you can end up missing out on a potential advantage. Never gonna my cup of tea, that's for sure, and I'm glad that it's gone the way of the Dodo by this point. Vincent was never a character I really used in the game itself (apart from some grinding in the Northern Crater at the end of the game, and that was only because I'd had to send Tifa that that one specific path in order to get that duplicate item) but I think he's a pretty great character all the same. He even got his own spin-off title, Dirge of Cerberus, but the less said about that the better, if the reviews of it are anything to go by.
Next up, we cover the other hidden character of FF7, Yuffie.
