#644 Ehrgeiz (PS1) Exclusive Hidden Characters (3/5): Yuffie Kisaragi playthrough.
A playthrough of the exclusive hidden character Yuffie Kisaragi in the PS1 port of Ehrgeiz.
Yuffie is the other hidden character of FF7, most commonly known as that godawful ninja who gives you nothing but headaches. A obsession with stealing materia and/or gil can led to a situation in FF7 where you wind up temporarily without your materia if you go to Wutai before Disc 3. This leaves you without one of the core aspects of the game itself, and is just an exercise in frustration. It's why I never visit Wutai before Disc 3. Sort of funny how extremely revered games have these flawed moments; FF7 with this moment and Ocarina of Time with the Water Temple as examples. Hell, even Panzer Dragoon Saga had the part where you lost your dragon for a while. The 5th Gen really had it out for its players, for some reason.
As with the other exclusive FF7 characters, Yuffie is a model-swap, this time of the regular character Sasuke. She can fight with that giant shuriken on her back, as well as being able to throw regular shurikens, as you'd probably expect of the game's ninja. If you press and hold the button , she'll charge up and fire three larger, more powerful shurikens. She has some really good combos which tend to trip up the enemy, and she has one of my favourite running combos where she does a triple uppercut of sorts. All in all, she's an extremely competent character, and definitely made for one of the easier, more fun playthroughs. Another good addition, in my opinion.
Lastly, one thing I forgot to mention prior is that when an FF7 character wins in this game, the regular win music is replaced with the Final Fantasy win theme. It's a nice touch, and really appreciated, but once more it does hammer home my initial point that they shot themselves in the foot by relying so much on FF7 as a selling point.
That wraps it up for the hidden exclusive Final Fantasy character, but we still have a few more characters yet to cover.
