#651 Tekken 1 (ARC) Bosses (4/9): Wang Jinrei playthrough.
A playthrough of the potential sub-boss Wang Jinrei in the arcade version of Namco's Tekken 1.
Having the most unfortunate name since Wayne Kerr, Wang is the token elderly martial artist of the series. These are a staple of just about any series; Tung Fu Rue in Fatal Fury, Gen Fu in Dead or Alive, Shun Di in Virtua Fighter, etc, and they typically utilise some advanced form of martial arts which is outlandishly powerful and sometimes bordering on the supernatural. Wang yet another example of this, with some crazy and impressive moves both in this game and in subsequent ones. As the sub-boss of Michelle, he understandably takes a lot from her moveset, such as the triple-punch launching combo which we last saw utilised by Kuma, but also has a few other borrowed moves such as the qcf+P move used by Heihachi and others. He also notably has his own unique voice, unlike most of the other sub-bosses. My favourite move of his however is his punch/throw combination. It's somewhat difficult to pull off, but it sees Wang punching the opponent before spinning behind them in order to deal a cheap throw. It's quite powerful as you'd expect, and strangely enough it's insanely satisfying to pull off, I suppose because it feels like something straight out of a Hong Konger kung fu movie.
Wang's a decent character to be sure; I've always liked him for his zaniness and for helping to add to an already diverse cast. Another great addition to the franchise, and his zaniness only grew with each game, as you'd expect of the old-timer fighter.
