Pele- one of the best football players to have ever lived. A true superstar, he scored over 1000 goals in his career and was an important part of the Brazil teams that won the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970. Pele the video game? Pretty much the opposite- one of the worst vintage football games, it's difficult to score even 1 goal and this has about as much chance of winning the World Cup as San Marino.

Remember how in Total Football, assigning diagonal movements to the cardinal directions on the d-pad made it needlessly hard to play? It's the same story here, except the diagonal pitch is facing the other way, so if you got used to Total Football-style movement, get ready for an all new learning experience. Also the goalkeepers are almost impossible to beat and the whole game feels rough, sloppily-made and badly thought out.

It's no wonder Sega's Australian division refused to release this game there or that Mega magazine rated the game 12%, calling it the 'Grimshaw's Bun Factory B Team Reserves' of football games and a 'tragic game'. A game that's simply unworthy to bear the name of one of football's greatest stars.

Also an irrelevant aside if you're still reading this. This game was released by Accolade in the same year they also unleashed their infamous Sonic knockoff Bubsy, a game that the first time I read it's name I read as 'Busby', as in Sir Matt Busby, the legendary Manchester United coach.
