Bare Knuckle III / Streets of Rage 3 (1994) by Sega and Ancient is for me, the best installment in the series of legendary beat' em up games. We play this version because Streets of Rage 3 is unfortunately censored and extremely difficult. When converting the game for the Western market , something must have gone wrong because the game is extremely difficult even on the easiest difficulty level. It is literally unplayable, especially on the highest difficulty level. Originally we managed to finish the game on Easy, but it turned out that in order to complete the game in its entirety we had to finish it on the very hard to see true ending. After many attempts we found that this is not feasible for us, so after reading a few articles that the original Japanese version is easier and on top of that it is uncensored, we decided that we will play it. We even managed to find an English version not official, but it's better than nothing. And I must admit that I am delighted with this move, because the game is simply better and faithful to the idea of the previous two parts. What was the game censored for? From sexual themes, of course. Some of the women apparently seemed too explicit in the eyes of western publishers and their clothes were changed to less skimpy. Also removed Asha....... until it's hard to say something about it you have to see it yourself then you'll understand. Still for some unknown reason the colors of the original clothes of the heroes were changed, in blaze the color of the skirt changed from red to white .... Why? I have no idea. Coming back to the game itself, it's the best part in terms of the combat system (from the 16bit trilogy ofc.), the locations in which we have to fight and probably the best storyline. Graphics, animation, music, sound effects, level design and enemies all top shelf of what Mega Drive / genesis could offer at the time. Definitely the Elite of Beat' em up games for any system. I would recommend to anyone. Just don't buy the western version of Streets of Rage 3, instead, buy Bare knuckle III. It may not be in English but you will ultimately get a better game in every way. One that you can actually finish, because to finish this wretched western version you need inhuman reflexes and dedication.
