R-Type (C64) Playthrough / Buckle up and pray that you can make it to the end. BECAUSE ALIENS !!
R-Type (1988) (Due to the huge loading times of +/- 45 seconds per level, I decided to cut them out for a better experience :P) from Rainbow Arts , is one of the flagship products of the horizontal shmups genre. R-type, Gradius, Salamander are practically the foundation on which the genre slowly grew. The game may not be of the first freshness, but it still plays well to this day. I decided to play the port from Commodore 64 because I think that in terms of what it offers it is the best port of all, taking into account the hardware capabilities, which are not too great. The game looks really nice, developers clearly made an effort to make the game as faithful as possible to the arcade version. There's even parallax scrolling, which was rather uncommon in C64 games of the time. Graphics are known to be slightly hazy and blurry, but that's the charm of the old Commodore. Music and sound effects are a masterpiece and the strongest part of the game. Chris Huelsbeck, as always, pulls everything he can out of the SID music chip.... truly something wonderful. The music is very energetic and dynamic and listening to it stimulates you to action . Slower tracks will also be found here and they are also of high quality. Fights with bosses can make a good impression, and at some of them a person asks himself what he is really fighting :P ......in one of the levels I wondered if I was fighting in the gut with a fart :D literally. I won't add much here, as for me this is one of the best c64 ports if not the best. And by far my favorite game for the system. Highly recommended.
