Batman the Movie (Amiga) Playthrough / Never ask who he is, just run away..... Because he's BATMAN!!
Batman The Movie (1989) by Ocean Software is is a game that combines many genres in one. Generally Ocean is not known for making good games but Batman was definitely a success for them. I assume the inspiration for combining multiple genres came from their earlier game "Platoon," which surprisingly wasn't the worst either. The game contains two platform levels, one level where we drive the Batmobile, one short puzzle level where we have to guess the antidote to the Joker's deadly gas and one level where we fly the Batplane. You can't complain about the lack of variety here. Levels turned out to be really decent, and especially noteworthy is the level with the Batmobilem where to enter a turn we have to anchor a special rope against corner traffic lights. This is a really unique mechanic and it's worth playing this game to at least finish this one level :P . The control during the platform levels is a bit stiff, and Batman moves like a fly in tar. There is no hand-to-hand combat here, instead all enemies are finished off with the use of throwing weapons, such as Batarangs. To ensure that the gameplay is not too slow, the creators also gave us a grappling hook, thanks to which we can freely catch on to distant platforms. The puzzle level is quite simple and the fastest of all, we have to choose and guess the right combination of chemicals. Whether we do it right is shown underneath by a number, if it is zero, it means that everything was wrongly assigned, and 3 is success. And the last flying level where we have to disconnect the gas balloons. Our task is to fly on the line that holds them to effectively get rid of them. Flying into the balloon itself or into the base to which it is attached results in damage. Each of these levels is different and I think that's the beauty of this game. Because it is not static and wants to surprise us at every step with something different. Graphically it's not even, platform levels look much worse than those where we drive a vehicle, but it's not the worst overall, and as for those years it's definitely ok. The music is great, especially in the intro... I love it when the guy asks, "Who are you?" and Batman replies "I am Batman." Epic. It's not a great or spectacular game, it's just okay. Simple as that. Typical average case indeed.
