Jim Power in Mutant Planet (Amiga) Playthrough /Don't switch the blade on the guy with shades Oh NO!
Jim Power in Mutant Planet (1992 AGA Version) by Loriciel and Digital Concept is one of those games about which it's hard to write something, because the decisions that were taken during the production process were strange at best. The game seems to be a grotesque mix of, well, a little bit of everything. There's a lot going on on the screen thanks to parallax scrolling, it may look cool, but the choice of colors sometimes makes the background blend with the plane of the actual game. The colors also seem to be too bright, and in many cases they are stuffed up unnecessarily, mix it all up with the many layers of paralax scrolling and you can get dizzy. I personally got that impression. The game looks really nice, but for me it was packed here simply too much of everything at once and it has neither order nor composition. As for the gameplay, it's terribly annoying that after one touch on anything we die. It would be better if there was a life bar which would separate normal injuries from fatal ones. The lack of this solution makes the character seem like a glass cannon, which is obliged to keep shooting forward all the time, because he doesn't know what will suddenly emerge from behind the screen. The music is great, thanks to the legendary Chris Huelsbeck, and I have no doubt that this is the strongest point of the game. There are fights with sub-bosses, which are ridiculously easy, and big bosses , which also after one or two approaches do not pose any challenge. It's nice that the game has been enriched with flying levels taken literally from the genre of horizontal Shmups, which is, in short, flying sideways and shooting or dodging everything. This is definitely a good addition, thanks to which the game does not seem so repetitive and boring after some time spent with it. In general, the game is not easy, but by Amiga standards it is quite easy :P If I had to summarize the game I would call it a dream of some beach surfing guy from the 80s, who watched Star Wars and Endless Story. The game is ok but it could have been much better.
