We're keeping it relatively light on the level content today, but it's fine.

Starting off, we've finally got our introduction to Viola as a playable character! She handles pretty differently from Bayonetta, unsurprisingly. The biggest and most immediate difference is that she gets Witch Time through blocking, not dodging. She can still dodge, mind you, she just doesn't get rewarded for it. I want to repeat again that when the game first came out, it was harder to use Witch Time with her. The timing was tighter, Witch Time didn't last as long, and you couldn't block with Bat Within timing to cancel damage.

But that's not all. Similar to Bayonetta, she can summon her demon Cheshire to join the battle. Unlike Bayonetta, it's her sword Mab Dachi that has to stay in one spot, meaning Viola can run around and fight unarmed, and Cheshire will fight on his own, meaning you don't have direct control over him. She doesn't have Demon Masquerade, either.

Ultimately, though, she may still have a lot to learn, but she's no slouch in a fight. Just, uh, watch out for small enclosed spaces, I guess.

Anyway! While Viola is trying to protect Luka, Bayonetta presses on. I guess I was wrong about how things would play out in the game. I thought what happened in Tokyo would set a pattern, but we don't get a chance to play as this world's Bayonetta at all. Oh well. She does, however, get to team up with our Bayonetta for a moment, as our demon train puts the "rail" in "rail shooter."

Of course, you can't end things in a world without a big boss battle, and while the boss goes full-on giant Sun Wukong, complete with a magical staff that changes size and a flying cloud, Bayonetta's response is none other than Queen Butterfly! If there's another Journey To The West reference here, I don't get it, but this is far from a standard boss fight. Queen Butterfly is several times bigger than the boss, and to fight him, she... takes a bubble bath. Seriously, your attacks are blowing bubbles at him, and waving your hand to send a wave of bubbles at him.

Have I mentioned that this game is great?

Also, Jeanne is here too. There's a boss fight this time, but since combat isn't really her focus, it's maybe not the most interesting thing in the world.

Next time: Egypt!
