BeamNG.drive is a relatively versatile motor vehicle driving simulator covering cars, buses, trucks, and a handful of other vehicles published as an early access game by BeamNG GmbH since 2013 (the official early access release was in 2015), making it even older than Automation. Although I was aware of it considerably before I had heard of Automation, I actually purchased it after Automation. This was because I learned that it is not possible to drive the cars created in Automation unless you have BeamNG drive. Effectively, you can export Automation cars to a BeamNG-readable format.

However, having said this, BeamNG stands fairly well on its own, with a crash model that's widely considered one of the best in gaming (the game engine used is Torque 3D), many vehicles to drive, and many possible driving scenarios. These scenarios include fully-modelled street and highway driving, with AI traffic and working traffic lights. In addition, this is a truly open-world game, with the possibility to get out of the car, walk around the virtual world, and even drive another car (it is possible configure a scenario with more than one drivable car). Even more impressive is that this is an "indie" game, produced by a core team of approximately three people, at a company dedicated specifically to this project.

Like Automation, this project has now dragged on for eight years without being completed. However, having said this, it feels like a complete game that is simply being further developed. There isn't the sense of incompleteness that you get in Automation. BeamNG.drive has even been ported to both Windows and Linux. In this playthrough, I'm playing the Steam release for Windows, specifically on Windows 10.

I hope you enjoy this playthrough, and I highly recommend this game!
