Dovetail Train Simulator 2022 Playthrough
Following the release, of Microsoft Train Simulator in 2001, Kuju Entertainment (the original developers) began a sequel, called Microsoft Train Simulator 2. This version was never fully released, even after two attempts by Kuju and Microsoft at doing so. My only experience with it was when I tried the Intercity 125 simulator at the National Railway Museum in York, which supposedly used Train Simulator 2 for its software back end. Kuju eventually turned to Electronic Arts for the release, although by the time this happened in 2007, it was called Rail Simulator, rather than Train Simulator 2. In 2008, development shifted from Kuju and Electronic Arts to Dovetail games, and Dovetail released Railworks, based on Rail Simulator, in 2009. Eventually the Train Simulator name returned with Dovetain's Train Simulator 2013, and it has been updated almost yearly since.
This frequent updating originally created problems for me when I first tried to review it here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVnludaY1oMIt isn't that releasing frequent updates is a bad thing, but recent releases of Dovetail Train Simulator have been distributed via Steam, and license owners have not been allowed to opt out of updates. This means that people who have already purchased a license can find themselves suddenly with a game that won't run on their computer. In my case, this didn't happen because I had bought Train Simulator 2014, and didn't try it until it was Train Simulator 2017. By that time, it already didn't run on my laptop of the time, at least not properly. I attempted the mostly-unsuccessful playthrough video above, and then uninstalled in hopes of eventually getting a more power computer.
As of this past year, I had had a new computer since about 2017, but had not experimented with Train Simulator yet. Therefore, I decided I would play through Train Simulator 2019, but by the time I got to it (after my series on rail and transport strategy games), it had become Train Simulator 2022. I attempted the playthrough anyway, and found that, with the graphics settings turned down, Train Simulator 2022 more or less works on my current computer. Therefore, this is my latest playthrough video for YouTube.
The official website for Dovetail Games is here:
https://dovetailgames.com/
On the website, you can not only find a section on the Train Simulator series, but also its arguable successor Train Sim World, although having said this, the current version of Train Simulator is actually newer than the current version of Train Sim World. I also intend to review and play through Train Sim World, if my current computer can run it.
