Following on the success of their version of Train Simulator, Dovetail Games developed the idea further with Train Sim World, a train simulator in which the player walks around rail facilities, performing various tasks in addition to driving trains. From the beginning, Train Sim World has used the Unreal game engine in order to achieve this experience with minimal software development, in spite of the fact that the original Train Simulator has continued to use a version of the old (Dovetail, not Jens Schubert) Railsim game engine.

Train Sim World originally went beta in December of 2016, and was released as "Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul" in July of 2018. This was confusing, as it made it look like a DLC either for Train Simulator, or for a game which did not yet exist. "CSX Heavy Haul" was actually a very vague title, as it was specifically a model of the Sand Patch Route, rather than all of CSX. In reality, CSX Heavy Haul was a complete game, and was followed up with "Train Sim World: Founders Edition," which featured the Great Western Railway in Britain. Both of these virtual railways were then incorporated into Train Sim World 2020, arguably the first definitive edition of the game, which also included interpretations of the Long Island Railroad, the Main-Spessart Bahn on Deutsche Bahn, Caltrain's Peninsula Corridor, and British Rail's Northern TransPennine route as it existed in the 1980's.

I eventually bought Train Sim World 2020 on Steam in 2021, in addition to Train Sim World 2, which was meant to replace it, and featured the most realistic graphics of any train simulator I have ever tried. Train Sim World 2 includes CSX Heavy Haul, but replaces the other routes with the Koln-Aachen mainline on Deutsche Bahn, and the London Underground Bakerloo line. Train Sim World 2 is, however, capable of running older routes developed for Train Sim World 2020.

For this playthrough, I have chosen to do a playthrough of part of the Great Western in Train Sim World 2020, and part of the Bakerloo in Train Sim World 2, making this a double playthrough. I may have been overly ambitious and/or longwinded in my introduction, so if you want to skip it, the actual gameplay begins at about 23:28.

As with many of the playthroughs I've done lately, I've barely scratched the surface with this one, and I may do some longplays in the future. For the moment, though, I hope you find this interesting. It didn't take much to sell me on this game once I saw the trailers on YouTube, so you may agree.
