Another optional dragon, another one that the X/Rex/Zero trifecta gets to smash to bits...in theory.

Brown-D is much like Blue-D in terms of how it operates on the counterattack side of things. Namely, a magical counterattack that hits your entire party if you hit its weakness (water). Normally this wouldn't be too much of an issue, but the spell used is Quake, capable of doing a good 1200+ damage to anyone not floating and without earth resistance. Unlike with Blue-D's arsenal, there's very few easy ways to resist earth outside of Float spam. Gaia Gears, Tabby Hides, or Moogle Hides are the only armor based sources of earth resist. Sabin & Mog get an extra option via equipping the Terrato esper for earth resist.

Everyone else? Well, better hope you have the hp to tank Quake (which can be used as a normal attack too by the way) or are floating.

If that wasn't bad enough, Brown-D also has Meteor. Think Red-D's S. Cross, but non-elemental in this case. Basically, that means you had damn well better be packing shell and a good 1000 hp at a bare minimum or it can easily drop a character. Also has access to Quasar which is painful (850-950 damage to all), but yeah...Meteor.

However, Meteor has one weakness...it can be absorbed. Not for healing, but to provide mp equal to its casting cost. Such is the way of how Celes and her very awesome Runic command operates. She activates said command and, provided its a spell that can be runic'd like Meteor is, will basically make it fizzle out. Good deal here when a well timed Runic saved a few people from getting space rocks dropped on their heads.

Due to the Quake counter possibilities alongside Dispel counters, I can't exactly go all out offense. X is the only constant attacker via dual Ocean Claws and being berserked. Rex & Zero are equipped to do some jumping shenanigans, but I usually leave one of them on standby until the other finishes their jump. That way, if Dispel gets used and a runic isn't active, I can quickly cast Float and get that back up. Potions do well enough to keep everyone healthy.

After X slays yet another dragon, the reward is the Force Shield. The polar opposite of the Genji Shield which happened to have higher defense than magic defense and granted auto-safe, the Force Shield has a higher magic defense score and grants auto-shell.

Just one more sidequest boss I want to show off, then the next set of bosses will come from KT.
