Not a dragon for once, but this beast can prove to be quite the fierce opponent for the unaware.

Umaro's main offensive is his physicals. Strong ones though that are on par with the optional dragons, if not a touch stronger. Takedown gets used as a counter fairly often and that can be a death knell for most unprepared characters.

Failing that, he does have some magical muscle in the form of Blizzard. Has some kick to it, but nothing that should be an issue to survive with ice resistance or shell buffs active.

One other thing...after knocking off a good portion of his hp, he enters "pissy boss mode". Besides getting a few buffs (haste, safe, shell), he now counters everything under the sun with Takedown almost all the time.

As for the characters in action here...everyone should be familiar, but I went to reset Shadow's ELs and toss them all into speed. He makes a very effective supporter with this, being able to summon Fenrir for a party wide image effect and the ability to toss Smoke Bombs to reapply image as it gets broken. He can still provide damage via tossing scrolls too.

Finally...Locke gets to make his debut here. He has a potential weapon from the Ancient Castle if he wants to take a vigor focused approach to using his ELs. Here though, he's more of a supporter with plenty of Ifrit ELs with a few Phoenix ELs tossed in for some greater hp & mp pools. He's also able to use a nifty relic called the Sage Stone, turning the magic command into the x-magic command. This allows him to double up on Fire 3 casts for high damage coupled with a Rogue Cloak or to keep the party running via cure spells or the highly valuable Life 2 to revive people to full strength.

The reward for this fight is two fold. You get the Terrato esper that triggered this battle and, provided you have Mog in the party, can talk to Umaro and have the yeti join up with the team. More on this beast in the next video.
