Breath of Fire (GBA) Playthrough Part 23b - Final Boss: The True Goddess, Tyr (Good Ending)
For the GOOD (and CANON) ending, you must have learned Agni. Revert Karn back to normal from any of his fused forms. Then have the Goddess heal you before clobbering her.
BOSS: Goddess (Phase 1)
Just auto-battle, there's no strategy required, the event battle will end real soon. You can also use Agni on her NOW, instead of waiting for the Phase 2 intermission when Sara tells you to use the ultimate dragon power. This'll make her jump right into her true form.
BOSS: Goddess (Phase 2)
Immediately unleash Agni, attack her once, and let the rest unfold to the true final battle.
BOSS: The True Goddess Tyr
HOLY CRAP! What in the world is THAT?! Immediately change Karn into Puka-Karn and Ryu into Rudra (or Agni). This... thing's physical attacks are absolutely brutal. To make matters worse, Tyr enters her second wind phase extremely quickly, making her attacks all the more vicious for a grand majority of the battle. A good strategy (better approach that I didn't consider) would be to pump up everyone's stats like Puka-Karn's attack power using Nina's support spells and items before pounding away at Tyr. A single attack on Karn has the potential to shave off more than 500HP and roughly 900HP if she scores a critical. It is probably safer to place him in the back row. Nina must be the group's dedicated healer because her healing spells always has priority before anyone else's move. Tyr's least damaging move is a comet spell that inflicts only 70 HP each, but don't let that be a sign of relief, because if you let any of you party member's HP drop too consistently, they won't likely survive. Bleu/ Mogu can alternate from using the StarHR and help Nina heal while Puka-Karn and Rudra retain the offensive. By accident I had Bleu attack Tyr for really depressing damage; I'd be laughing my ass off if that delivered the fatal blow. Another mistake was trying to speed up Nina faster than Tyr so I can have her use items to heal team members instead of wasting away all her AP. Use White Antlers to heal her AP if it dips too low. Unfortunately it is a lost cause, because Tyr is clearly way faster than ANY party member (even Karn) and will always act first. This will be a long battle, regardless and a nail-biter at times. At least Ryu FINALLY delivered a fatal blow lol. I'm actually surprised that NOBODY died even once during this battle. I'm pretty sure Tyr knew instant death spells back in the SNES version, perhaps the developers did do re-balancing. Tyr has a lot of HP, but I can't help but wonder if her Phase 2 had equal or more than this form.
With Tyr properly defeated, a more appropriate ending ensues with each party member returning back home. After the END screen, there is a slight teaser added to correspond with the Breath of Fire 2 port for GBA which was released roughly a year after this one. it is also implied that during Breath of Fire, Ryu and Nina developed feelings for one another and Bo and Karn became the best of friends and began hunting trips together.
The battle background with Sara in the end credits is a bit confusing because it is obvious that the only possible place for such an encounter is on the top of Karma Tower, yet I don't ever recall encountering ANYTHING up there. It is possible the developers dummied out encounters there entirely, but there still exists a battle background for it.
