Breath of Fire (GBA) Playthrough Part 4 - Tantar and Tuntar
At this point, pairing up Ryu using the Foil (Rang) and Nina with the Earth Key can take out most groups of enemies with relative ease and time. If convenient, head back to Drogen and purchase a Hairband for Nina, that'll be her best helmet for some time.
The Forest Clan is the first animal clan to encounter. If information is accurate from a soldier in Winlan, the lupine residents in Tantar were originally in the heavily wooded area near Romero and Karma (since that is the ONLY heavily wooded area to begin with...). Then after being attacked and driven away by the Dark Dragons (implied by the intro) to get their sacred Ring, they relocated and befriended the neighboring village Tuntar and decided to live side-by-side to share resources. I hesitate to call them werewolves, because that is clearly NOT the case, but one might think that way.
The enemies in Lament Woods can be pretty tough, but is shorter than the forest between Romero and Karma. It'd be a wise idea to level up a bit.
BOSS: Pog [8:56]
Pog really isn't that hard, he only has the ability to attack twice each turn and that's about it. The only slight difficulty lies in the fact that there is a boss battle immediately following this one.
Actually, if you reject the fake chief's assistance in leading you to the "weapon stash" about 3 times, Bo will show up from behind with the REAL Tuntar chief following and immediately call him out and thus jumping forward to the second boss battle. Missing out on the Pog battle is a little disappointing and you lose the experience and gold that come with it too. If you chose to fight only the General, I suppose it is implied that Bo took care of Pog.
BOSS: General [10:25]
This guy is stronger than the Knight fought earlier, but lacks in the magic department. He goes down quickly with Bo's Fry spell.
Bo joins the party and he's awesome. Being an expert, lupine woodsman enables him to traverse wooded areas with ease. In addition he can properly hunt wildlife encountered in the map rather than resorting to the typical corner-till-they-explode approach. Make sure he is in the lead whenever traveling on the map. Like any archer, he can hold his arrow and fire at will, so hunting it isn't simply a button mash of firing arrows. He has a pretty strong array of magic spells for early on, and physically his damage infliction is top-notch. Unfortunately he lacks in AP and his defense is rather weak due to the inability to wield a shield (yet...). At least he doesn't use ACTUAL arrows unlike other RPGs which is a relief. It's probably a good idea to put him in the back-row for the time being.
