Breath of Fire (GBA) Playthrough Part 16 - Mote's Dream World
Dark Fleas start showing up in pretty large numbers and these little gnats simply love to cast instant death spells whenever possible, so make sure you always take them out first.
Ryu and co. reach the town of Spring... which is anything BUT said namesake. We also come across... another Dr. Wily... how about that... this must be Mega Man's Dream World. Spyre Tower is another interesting place of design, each floor houses different climates, weather, or altitudes. Unfortunately my plan to show an entire traversal of said tower to the top is cut short, by the fact that it took way longer than I intended. Also note that the ONLY way to leave the tower is via a wall slot on the Winter floor. I left my traversals of the rainy, sky and space floor since they were the most interesting.
I saved footage of my battle with what I consider the MOST ANNOYING enemy in the entire game, BlazeX. This asshole hits hard and relentless, he can cast BoltX at ease which depletes an instant 400HP, a Nova spell that damages 50HP each. God this thing was SUCH a prick, I don't think it was a randomized option or coincidence that he kept pelting away at Ryu. My god... and the BASTARD gave so little to compensate such a horrendous battle WTF. I've fought enemies back in BLEAK that gave more than this.
Mote finally appears in person to Ryu and crew and entraps them in his Dream World. He even imprisoned the Bleu's Key Guardian of the Sky Key. Although his dream realm possesses the similar surrealistic tone that Mogu's Dream World had in terms of design; however, I can't help but think the creativity has fallen slightly shorter in comparison, granted the towns are the pretty much the same, but the only place in Mote's Tower that has uniqueness is the glass pathway with spiraling intersections when Mortho's Tower was a literal mind scramble from top to bottom.
Mote's mini-world map doesn't have monster encounters unlike Mogu's so you can freely waltz towards his domain. Be sure to pick up Gobi's Trident which when used as a battle item inflicts 95HP damage to all enemies. You also run into Mote's Conscience... surprised he even HAS one, but if he was truly once part of the Dirt Digging clan like Mogu, I guess it's not entirely improbable.
BOSS: Mote [17:31]
This is an interesting battle. The more pixelated Mote is, the more vulnerable he is to physical attacks; however, inversely the less pixelated he becomes, the more vulnerable he is to magic attacks. More physical attacks he endures, the less pixelated he becomes, and magic attacks pixelate him. This topsy-turvy battle is probably best fought with Ryu in normal form. His main attacks are magic spells, the most damaging that attacks all. At times, he rams into chars for physical damage which isn't a lot. He has a substantially large amount of HP which includes his second wind, so the fight can be pretty lengthy. As much as I would've liked to have used Mogu instead of Bleu for the fight, he doesn't have the kinda stats that could withstand Mote's assaults and instead might become more of a liability for the rest of the fighters.
After the nightmarish fiend has been defeated for good (with the help of his conscience), Ryu and crew obtain the Sky Key and restore the natural climate to Spring. Take this opportunity to fish in the Duck Pond for a DragonAR. While not as powerful OR useful as Ryu's LifeAR, it is necessary for the third Dragon Shrine Trial.
