Arguably my ALL-TIME FAVORITE NES GAME PERIOD! While Mario Bros. 3 and Legend Of Zelda 1 could certainly tie with it in many ways, ultimately the game that I play more then any other game on the system is undoubtedly this one. Having been introduced to it on the Gameboy Advance NES Classics Series I instantly went about trying to find a copy for my NES. Not long afterwards a friend at school sold me his copy for $10 and I was off and running from then on. This game marks a the biggest turning point in my little gaming career not only as collector of retro games but also as someone who more or less made it a personal mission statement to beat as many old-school retro games that I grew up with as humanly possible for essentially the next 12 years more or less. I think the reason being too is that this was the first game that I knew I could play well, could arguably beat it but knowing that it was going to take some luck and a lot of hard grinding to do so. And I wasn't wrong either. I remember that morning spending 2hrs exclusively on the Grim Reaper and then the next 6hrs plus on Dracula alone before finally beating it. It felt like completing a marathon in the truest sense of the word and it also led to a lot of other games being defeated not long afterwards and in the next few years as well many games that I had been unable to complete prior (Jurassic Park, Zelda 1&2, other Castlevania games etc.) all soon fell by the wayside. My reasoning for every game that I played and beat afterwards was that if I could endure an 8 hr marathon with Castlevania then I can do this. And it worked. Nowadays Castlevania doesn't really pose a challenge anymore having played it so many times and knowing most of the game inside and out but that doesn't take away any of the joy I get every time I play it. It's still THE game for me on NES in many ways and it most likely will stay that way for long time to come still. Its my favorite game on the system and arguably my 2nd favorite game in the series. A stone-cold classic and one of the greatest and purest examples of 8-bit platforming. Tough but worth it! Hope You Enjoy!
