(CCPlays) 1984 Soviet Campaign | Part 30: Convoy Attack | Cold Waters DotMOD
Previously, in the 1984 Soviet Campaign of Cold Waters... We sank a Sturgeon, and avoided a Skipjack. (Or should we say, she avoided us)

Welcome to Captain Chang Plays (CCP) Cold Waters. We are playing the 1984 Soviet Campaign at reduced difficulty.

20-OCT-1984 North Atlantic Northwest of Randall Bank
We engaged a convoy from the US.
It turned out to be a Spruance escorting two NATO Modern Cargo ships. We sank all three.
We now have 7 torpedoes onboard: 3 x 65-76, 2 x TEST-71M, and 2 USET-80. TOTAL. And 2 Vodopad for antisub work. AND 3 decoys.
22-OCT-1984 North Atlantic, Western Approaches
We intercepted another convoy coming in from USA
This turned out to be a big convoy of 4 x NATO ROROs escorted by 2 x Knox, 1 Spruance, and 1 Type 42. It was later that we discovered there was also a Los Angeles class SSN hiding to ambush the attacker.
We started firing when the closest Knox entered 9 km. We sent a TEST-71M on its way, then 2 x 65-76 into the middle of the convoy at the cargo ships. I did notice a torpedo coming at me, but I didn't register the fact that it didn't come from any of the escorts at the time. When it fired again, then I noticed the NATO submarine.
Type 42, the closer Knox, and the Los Angles class closed in, while the other two escorts ran off. All 4 cargo ships went for a vector of roughly heading 256. The two previous torpedoes should track one or more ships that were in the middle, so I sent two more 65-76 toward the two ships at the edges, while dealing with the incoming escorts. The Type 42 and the Los Angeles were distracted by the decoy I sent their way, which sent their own torpedoes back to them as well. It was amusing to see Los Angeles chased by its own torpedoes.
In the meanwhile, I fired one Vodopad at a time at the Los Angeles to keep it from getting closer to me.
Three of the cargo ships went down, which meant all three of the big torpedoes I sent that way hit and sunk 3 separate ships.
I was about to turn away, but the helo was too close, so I ordered seaman Makarov into the sail to get ready to shoot at the helo. And he managed to shoot it down. Sailor Makarov will be nominated for a medal. Type 42 shot its fore cannon at us, but we submerged and avoided that. With both the Los Angeles and the Type 42 getting close, I dumped a decoy and my last torpedoes (2 x USET-80s) toward them and left the area in a northeasterly direction. Surprisingly, both torpedoes found their marks. Both Type 42 and Los Angeles were sunk.
We disengaged without further incident and went back to Murmansk for torpedoes and patch-up.
And the war continues in the next episode.
