CiB Game Boy Theater - Tetris and The Real Ghostbusters (Episode 101)
The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
I toyed with the idea of keeping the original Tetris as the final game we would ever do on Game Boy theater, but who knows how long it would take us to get to that point so... here's Tetris! As we discuss, it really is the perfect pack-in title, and finding amazing pack-in titles has been one of Nintendo's strongest attributes (Wii Sports, Super Mario Bros 1, etc). It showed people what the Game Boy could do, with an easy to pick up, extremely hard to master puzzle game. I'm sure we all know a few people who owned a Game Boy and only had Tetris!
The Real Ghostbusters is a pretty uncommon title. I was expecting an average side-scroller action game, and instead, we got a mixture of Lode Runner, Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle, Solomon's Key... honestly, as far as the Game Boy library is concerned, this is a pretty solid title. I don't know anything about The Real Ghostbusters show, but I'm wondering if this game has anything to do -at all- with the show. Regardless, pretty fun game, check it out, and thanks for watching!
