Classic Racers (2019) - Every PC F1 Game
Classic Racers by Vision Reelle, 2019.
The rarest of things: a mobile phone game ported to PC that's actually decent! Classic Racers (or Baguette, Fromage et Pistons, as it's known on iOS/Android) is essentially a hill climb game, with your car trying to set the best time, to compare to worldwide leaderboards.
Car-wise it has a range of 13 1960's era road, sports, Le Mans and Grand Prix cars, as shown here. Sound is okay, for the most part, but the period-authentic music loops on the menus get a bit boring quickly! Graphics are pretty decent overall.
There are 13 stages in the game, plus 12 reversed/night/slalom (with haybales in the track) variants. The most interesting being a 1960's Monaco (called Manoca Grand Prix).
Handling-wise it's okay; not really a sim (no car damage, but as you're against the clock any off means you won't be as high up the leaderboard). It can be twitchy to control on keyboard/joypad, I'm using steering wheel here. There is a handbrake that even works on Grand Prix cars, but I've not used it here (for authenticity!).
There are a few quirks; you can drive out of the map on some tracks; the car shadow seems to show a different texture to the ground it passes over, the frame rate skips a little here-and-there and night lighting effects on one track move out-of-synch. There's also no replay/external cam, hence none being shown here!
The game was eventually released as freeware, with optional donation "DLC", if you appreciate the game.
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Not Monza, but this stage is pretty fast! There's no damage (luckily) but the aim is to be the fastest, so any collisions will wreck your time!
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): xxx There's no rain in the game, but here's a wide-open stage (a bit like Silverstone, except nothing really like it :-D
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): xxx This is the Manoca track (I see what they did there!), which is a pretty nicely realised version of Monaco.
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): xxx Again, no rain here, but this is a conifer-lined track, so a bit more like Spa, in a way.
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): xxx There's no pitstops here, so I parked briefly for a moment! This is one of the few "Slalom" tracks, where you have to swing in-between haybales along the track.
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): xxx Crashes mainly slow you down, but you can roll or flip, which leaves you stuck! As it'll ruin your stage time, it's better to just restart if this happens!
