Grand Theft Auto V (2015) - Every PC F1 Game
Grand Theft Auto V by RockStar North/Rockstar Games, 2015.
GTAV added open wheel cars in 2020, with more varied vehicles appearing over time. Here I'm using the Benefactor BR8, which is apparently an amalgam of a couple of Red Bull F1 cars.
Of course, the whole game is set in the not-LA city of Los Santos, so there's no official F1 tracks in the game (although some people have created them as add-ons, but I'm only covering original game content here!).
I'm racing here in the side-part of the game, GTA Online.
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Like much of GTA Online, race starts are often chaotic! It's a case of who survives the first lap might go on to win! Interestingly, the so called KERS boost isn't available on the first lap (a bit like DRS in real-life F1). It'd probably make starts even messier otherwise!
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:26 Rain can look really nice in the game. Spray effects less so. The constant concentric circle droplet effects remind me of The Saboteur's wet effects. Rain doesn't really increase the difficulty much, and you don't need wet weather tyres!
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:46 There are many underpasses and tunnels around the game, but I stuck to downtown here, for a semi-Monaco vibe. Much like Burnout Paradise, racing through heavy traffic in an open-wheeler can be great fun, and you're less likely to get damaged if you do crash (these are tough (for a while) cars!).
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:15 I've used the part of thickest evergreen trees here, for a semi-Spa look. The lightning strike was unexpected but cool!
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:50 Pitstops (in the race series) are rather cloudy affairs! I also show off the KERS boost effect here.
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 2:10 Yep, I had to wreck some people's races to get this clip. Kind of fun to do so though, anyway *evil grin*. Crashes are semi-spectacular, and it takes a few of them to properly damage your car enough to cause handling issues. Popping rear tyres cause the most grief, but you can get another cloudy pitstop to fix them!
