Horizon Chase Turbo (2018) - Every PC F1 Game
Horizon Chase Turbo by Aquiris, 2018.
In 2021, Aquiris added a "Senna Forever" mode to their Horizon Chase Turbo game, turning it from something like a clone of Lotus Turbo Challenge/Out Run to something more like Super Monaco GP! It's a total arcade racer, with pickups littering the track and a turbo boost function. You can choose to optimise your car for handling, speed, or more fuel+extra turbo at the start of each race.
Covering 3 eras (roughly early 1980s, late 1980s and early 1990s) the DLC includes 18 teams (30 cars) and 15 race tracks from around the world. It also adds an in-car view and a mode where you can try to replicate key moments from Senna's career.
Here I've chosen cars from the "Legend" era (1990s). You'll see tracks are based on various eras (Silverstone being a pre-1991 version). The game also (cheekily, as the developers are Brazilian) includes both Rio and Interlagos :-)
The game also has amazing music by the same person behind the tunes in the Lotus Turbo Challenge and Top Gear games. Some even share the same riffs! But I've switched them off so you can hear the engines here!
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Race starts are usually tricky, with cars bouncing off you if you don't watch your control/speed. As it's an arcade game there's no damage, but too many hits will waste your fuel and leave you far behind. Notice the little quirky captions the driver calls out from time-to-time!
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:14 There is wet weather in the game, but it sometimes switches to sun quite quickly, as shown here. There are no spray effects from the wheels though.
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:37 Monaco looks pretty quirky here, with a few liberties taken to the sharpness of corners (for optimum arcade racing!).
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 0:49 I quite like how they threw in Eau Rouge/Raidillon as a super fast, crazy tall sweeping chicane! Again the wet weather decided to stop quickly :-D
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:00 There are no pitlanes in the game, but each lap you can decide to drive through the fuel pickups or collect an extra turbo boost (other side of the track), or slow down to do both. If you run out of fuel your race is over, so it's quite important!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:16 There's no damage here, but if you turbo into a tyre wall you'll get a hugely arcade style end-over-end flip, like something from Out Run!
