rFactor 2 (2012) - Every PC F1 Game
rFactor 2 by Studio 397/ISI, 2012.
I've redone this one as content has moved along a lot (no need to show modern F1 cars on 1966 circuits!). My graphics card is also now stronger...
Most of the content shown here is much newer than 2012, but as rFactor 2 first came out then, it's the date I've listed it against, otherwise it would keep changing, as they're still working on it now!
Originally released by Image Space Inc, before being taken over by Studio 397, rFactor 2 is finally showing the promise it should have had years ago!
The cars I've used here are all ones that come with the game, or as DLC; a mix of the Formula Pro unofficial F1 car (released 2021), the 2012 Marussia F1 car, the 1998 McLaren F1 car (released 2018) and a few uses of the Formula ISI F1 clone cars, based on roughly 2012-era regulations.
Track-wise, I've only included officially released tracks that come with the game combined with DLC extra tracks, as when the game released Monza, Monaco and Spa-Francorchamps were only available in 1966 variants! If I included third-party mods then this comparison would go on forever...
Graphically, rFactor 2 is always in-development. It already looks a lot different to the initial video I made of the game a few years ago.
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Here we are in the Marussia with a field of 2012 Formula ISI cars, at the official DLC version of Monza. As you can see, the computer-controlled cars put up a stiff fight!
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:37 This is the modern Silverstone, at least. The rain effects (along with depth-of-field blur effects) are relatively recent additions to the engine, so the spray falls into the "could do better" category! Not sure why the car engines sound like that though... note: these are computer-controlled cars, hence their slightly odd behaviour! Strangely all the AI cars kept going into the pits almost every lap...
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 1:01 Using the official DLC version of Monaco, amusingly named Circuit d'Azur to dodge copyright perhaps! I'm using the 1998 McLaren F1 car.
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:17 Official DLC Belgium here. Once again, the rain effects are a lot less high quality than the latest Codemasters F1 games, and could be better. I also note cars handle far too well on dry weather tyres at the current time (although I put wets on here so it looked correct!).
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:37 This is the Formula ISI car (dressed up as Force India). The Interlagos track here is created by Reiza Studios. Pitstops are... disappointing. For starters, I don't know why your car drops back to the ground as soon as it's lifted up. The red pulsing pitstop box is rather hypnotic, mind you!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 2:03 This version of Montreal was converted from rFactor 1 by ISI, hence it looks a bit old. Crashes in rFactor 2 are pretty crazy, and this one is rather special - almost like something from Rocket League!
