Oops, I accidentally finished the story.

Before that, though, I did give another side mission a whirl in the Research sector, as my travels were leading me back there anyway. The side mission itself led somewhere...interesting, but it once again culminated in a boss fight that you'd swear was heavily inspired by Dark Souls. Spend 20 minutes trying to whittle away a boss's gargantuan life bar one sliver at a time, meanwhile it can end you in 20 seconds - especially if it uses all of its attacks at once, which it does, on occasion. Hard pass.

So I focused back on the story - even accidentally at one point, as it seemed it would be time to finally repay Ahti... except apparently none of his janitorial tasks are even required, and I stumbled into advancing the main story instead. From there, things escalated surprisingly quickly, though not without a final curveball.

I'm honestly a little disappointed that the main plot wrapped up so quickly. It felt like there was so much potential to throw in several more twists, and to do more with some of its characters. When Dylan was first introduced, his dialogue threatened to throw all perceived alliances and oppositions into question, but it feels like ultimately the plot failed to capitalize on that potential. When I returned to the Ashtray Maze and it went all heavy-metal-action-sequence, I was extremely surprised - it felt tone-deaf. This was a perfect opportunity to build up to the greatest puzzle of the entire game, but it totally wasn't that at all, it was just a colossal special-effects-dump set piece - which was cool, but not what I expected at all.

I'm still curious what the other side missions and the DLC have to offer, so I'm not necessarily done yet. I may end up resorting to turning on some of the game assist features in order to make the boss fights tolerable though.
