Far Cry 4 is basically a Total Mod for FC3 but sadly lacks that game's vibrant Pacific Ocean environments (so far there's been a lot of undifferentiated forested areas which don't feel particularly memorable). Also, I'm one of the few people on the planet who actually *liked* the spoiled brats in the otherwise slightly overrated Far Cry 3, and the new protagonists have been much less interesting so far. Hopefully the story's branching paths (a nice callback to the best entry in the series, Far Cry 2) will make things more compelling over time. And if not, at least the shooting feels great...
As for the graphics, FC4 obviously looks a lot better on my new computer (the volumetric fog has a particularly dramatic impact on the visual presentation), but regardless of what graphics settings I'm using it does suffer from the same kind of tiresome frame rate hiccups and micro-stuttering that I noticed on my old rig (the difference being the range of FPS wobbling; my previous GPU stumbled around at 30-50 FPS whereas the new one swings distractingly between 50-80 FPS). As of yet there doesn't appear to be a perfect solution; adaptive v-sync helps greatly to maintain a solid 60 FPS during regular outpost raids but it tends to struggle with driving scenes, whereas turning v-sync off has the opposite effect.
