1,448Did AMD KILL The Zen 3+ Refresh? AMD Ryzen 6000 / Warhol Cancelled To Focus On Zen 4 ?
AMDs Zen 3 + processors, which were a modest refresh of zen 3 might be cancelled according to information I have received. Their Warhol series of CPUs (Ryzen 6000) was apparently set to release Q4 2021, and would offer a 3 - 10 percent bump in performance (5 - 7 percent being average) and a small clock frequency bump.
But because of the current market conditions AMD is apparently considering not launching Zen 3 +, and instead of Warhol being Ryzen 6000, AMD would focus their attentions on Zen 4 for launch in 2022.
Zen 4 brings a large bump in IPC, DDR5 memory and other major improvements. IF this information is true regarding AMD Warhol, it would lead to some very interesting questions on how the market would shake up versus Intel's Alder Lake Architecture. Intel's 12th gen ADL CPUs were said to be quite close to the projected IPC / performance of Warhol, but ADL would edge Zen 3+ out in gaming, but AMD would obviously take wins rather easily in more multithreaded applications.
The reason Warhol is said to be cancelled by my source was said to be pressure from shortages, and potenttial issues such as AMD might believe that Ryzen 5000 will have reached enough people to not frustrated people by essentially launching a new AM4 product when some people might have only just received their chips.
It is worth noting though - that while one source has told me he believes it might be cancelled, this would be a VERY recent decision because my other information (covered in this video) was from recent performance projections from AMD, and Warhol was indeed still on internal roadmaps up until recently.
