0:00 Chitose's Ankylomon
We've faced Ankylomon before in an optional storyline battle, but we never saw it develop curious properties it packs in this one. It now... resists piercing moves greatly? Using the likes of GranKuwagamon or Phantomon against it leads to them dealing very low damage, and other non-piercing attacks dealing even less, to our chagrin. Fractional moves, fortunately, aren't affected, and Gryphonmon has somehow managed to bypass the piercing resistance with its Sonic Voice still dealing full damage boosted by the 1.5 wind vs. earth rock/paper/scissors multiplier. Could it have something to do with Gryphonmon inflicting bug, or perhaps the wind multiplier? Is it a bug of some sort? Pun unintended.
It takes Ankylomon several turns to buff itself up when its damage potential gets particularly menacing with its Tail Hammer special, letting it really wipe the floor with our party. Since it's Free-type, any typing is good against it, but this also means none are fully protected when the Tail Hammer spam commences. Here, I start using KingEtemon's Monkey Wrench to severely debuff single-target boss battles, and it seems to have a potent effect, hopefully preventing Tail Hammer from wrecking too much havoc when it does activate.
Ankylomon DNA digivolves into Shakkoumon for the next battle, into which we are forced with the same party we finished the previous fight with us, so we ought to prepare a full Data team for...
4:23 Nokia's Omnimon
We faced Nokia before in this game, and she used both WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon in that one. The fight was forgettable, which cannot be said about this one. Omnimon acts quite a bit, and each turn counts, as it buffs its attack in preparation for its multitarget Transcendent Sword attack.
A party of two Gryphonmons and one Plesiomon lasts for a while until one of the former procs the Bug status. If I don't want to take 6K damage per attack (take a guess if I do), I'd best switch out to a Virus team not to have to face a type disadvantage on every enemy attack. GranKuwagamon, despite taking 1.5x extra damage from fire, can tank one Transcendent Sword but still isn't impervious to damage. Phantomons are the definition of glass cannon in this battle, getting OHKO'd by the boss's moves but dishing back 3x multipliers with Soul Chopper (he is light type, making him dark-weak). Generally, you will benefit from any turn they are alive to make use of, but don't expect them to actually STAY alive.
It's not unusual to see the whole party getting wiped out several times over as Omnimon's buffs accumulate, and even someone like SkullSatamon can add chip with its dark Virus non-special. Here, it even lands the finishing blow as I await GranKuwagamon to make another re-entrance to attack with Dimension Scissors once more.
Facing Omnimon sure is volatile.
