Doom 64 EX - PC – Intro & gameplay stages 1 and 2 (hidden stage Hectic) [4K60]
Doom 64 is best described as the Doom time forgot, it disappeared without a trace on the N64 ad never reappeared on any other system. So when a fan mod appeared that ported the ROM image to PC, many fans were over the moon. Doom 64 was Doom III in all but name, many gamers may even prefer it to Id's own Doom III which swapped fast paced shooting for stumbling around in the dark with a torch.
Granted the N64 version had a number of issues from an awful default control scheme, that is best adjusted to match the Goldeneye instead. Along with a default brightness that looks like the the game is in permanent night time mode. Some levels also have a deeply confusing puzzle layout.
While the game was mauled at the time, partly cause it wasn't in full 3D, just compare Turok Dinosaur Hunter to it now and Doom 64 is the winner every time. The EX version ports the original game to the PC with a few minor updates correcting the controls, brightness level and adding in widescreen. Showing Midway Games work in its very best light, while it seems likely the game didn't sell that well on N64, over the years it has grown in popularity.
Gameplay from the first level with all secrets and the hidden exit, before we do the Hidden stage Hectic, Riven used the Soulsphere item to cheat part of the level. Which you can do in the original N64 version too. This version has since been officially ported to modern consoles and PC with a number of improvements
