Here we are, the long and awaited map 5 of Scythe X. What do I have to say about this map you may ask, well...
This is the first map i've done a speedrun of, that I truly hate. I'm truly sorry Erik, you do better in other maps, but I really dislike this map!
The run itself was me basically giving up with it, I have no idea how in the hell other than luck with infighting and monster movement that someone was able to get under 1 minute for a level like this. No matter how many times I tried (even in attempts I didn't count), I couldn't do it!
I guess the base gameplay of the level is that you pick up everything at the start and you go with it till the end. For a very short level this is, this is also very unusually annoying. The placement of lost souls is already annoying, since they count towards the kills, as well as the mid fight mancubi, that join in just to act as a giant cluster of middle fingers.I feel like the only purpose of them being there was to annoy the player into a claustrophobic environment instead of balancing the level in combat. From what i see, there is simply no balance, you're either lucky or you are not and you die.
And then comes the rockets. I assume that other runners seemed to get lucky with the monsters all being in a cluster and could take most of them out with the help of splash damage, however I would say that I was less lucky in that instance.
I was shocked when I played through this map, I wouldn't have thought this was Erik's style of combat and monster placement. And if it was, this just seems like a beta test version of Whispering Winds. it bothers me significantly that the episode ends off in a miss.
Once again, i'm sorry Erik, please don't take this personally as you are a very good mapper, and most of your work has been great! However this is an exception, a black sheep as many call it.
Episode 1 sadly ends in disappointment, and I was very anticipated for the build up. However, I can hope for better things in episode 2 of Scythe X, as from what i've seen, the next couple levels seem very fun!
The next time I play through Scythe X, I think I may as well just skip this map completely.
