Here's one wad that I had started playing at the beginning of 2022 after catching a cold and getting over it, I've spoken of how Doom got controversy for it's violence and how TNT Evilution caused controversy but this one is quite controversial for diferent reasons. I'm using the version released on February 17th 1997.

Mordeth has a unique placement in the top 100 wads of all time, It was placed at 5 out of 10 for 1997 and appears also at the bottom of the list at 10 for Doomworld's top 10 most notorious wads.. Why? Mordeth has a interesting story where it's 2nd episode STILL remains unfinished even after 24 years and remains as only 1 episode of what author Gaston Lahaut, Co-founder of Doomworld had planned as 3 episodes, Thus Mordeth was "honored" as being the name of a cacoaward named the "Mordeth Award" for the longest Development history.

Mordeth is... incredible to say the least for 1997, The castle theme along with some new custom monsters which draw from Heretic along with some heretic decorations really sells the point for Mordeth. The overall maps flow better than the other 1997 wads and with Mordeth, There's always more than one way to continue from the location you seem stuck on, The only part that'll get you at first is the final map where the "bosses", Two serpents from Heretic which fire mancubus fireballs at you, I died many times but it was cleared. It's a shame this wad never was fully finished but It's a important piece of doom history.
