Doom Wads/Mods #474:Switcheroom
1https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/megawads/swtchrm Community Projects are special to me, to see many authors jump together to make new ideas or a common theme with many different imputs, So in between filming this season I was searching every year in wads and this interesting release came up and, originally this wasn't an episode but after going over it I had to include Switcheroom after falling in love with it and several late rainy nights.
Switcheroom was released on October 28th 2014 and was brainstormed by Death Egg with Jaws In Space and MagnusBlitz being co-leaders, Its a full 36 map megawad replacing all 4 episodes of Ultimate Doom with help from Traversd, Tourniquet, Gothic, and Walter Confalonieri among others. The overall idea? Re-create all of Ultimate Doom but if every map was picked from a different episode and remade using the current episode's textures which is by far, in my opinion, one of THE most creative things I've seen in a Ultimate Doom megawad so far.
What really impresses me the most? Switcheroom's maps all use ideas from every possible map in Ultimate Doom to make a hybrid that wears all the creativity used with E1M1 itself showing clear reference to Containment Area, Limbo, and Unruly Evil, Ammo placement and Health placement are acceptable and neither poor nor good so a few map make me think that they were made as ammo puzzles, Boss levels will push you and it screwed with my muscle memory but you know, I'm used to that by now.
