Its the one game in the entire franchise that I have a love/hate relationship towards, Its taken time as I was highly critical in the past when Doom 3 was new as it looked so much different from Classic Doom, but with the dumpster fires like Doom Eternal and Doom 2016? Doom 3 actually looks good by default, This mod here goes back to 2018 and I'm using the most recent file which released on August 3rd 2022, Author is Xim.
GzDoom3 for Classic Doom is specifically Doom 3 but if it was made in 1993, the weapons the enemies everything being just like Classic Doom, all of the maps of any IWAD or PWAD you use will have Doom 3 inspired textures, darkness level and ambience while music itself is heavily inspired by Doom 3's score composed by Chris Verna Of Nine Inch Nails fame and Clint Walsh performing as the band Tweaker.
Just wow, I had never thought in all my time playing mods and wads for Doom that I'd see anything that would make Doom 3 work in Classic Doom terms but here it is, There's no reload key which irked me some as you'll have to empty a clip before you can reload again, you can't reload mid clip and this will affect how you play on high skills, All the classic enemies you may remember from Chainsaw grunts and pistol zombies to the nightmarish hell knights and arachnotrons, even Doom 3's unique CyberDemon is well represented here.
The only generally negative thing about this mod as before is the lack of the ability to reload a clip halfway spent and sometimes this can leave you open to serious attack, The FN P90 is the worst offender by far out of all the weapons you get in this mod, Still this mod gives me a new appreciation for Doom 3 and also again strengthens my case that Classic Doom will always be in style forever.
