1https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/megawads/dtwid The DTWID series is another that I play often since it to me, gives great insight into those who create wads that follow the classic doom style to a T, and I've already gone over both Doom II The Way I.D. Did and also two spin-offs which are Doom 2 In Spain Only and No End in Sight and someday I'll go over DTWID The Lost Episodes and Ultimate Doom The Way I.D. Did.. But for now its time to give due to the originator of this series, which was released in 2011 and give a cacoaward in 2012.
Originally begun by Hellbent, and later led by Alfonzo, XaSeR Acheron, Ellmo, Marnetmar and Esselfortium, Doom The Way I.D. Did is a 27 level megawad that was created to mimic the work of John Romero, Sandy Peterson, and Tom Hall with others including Use3D, Stewboy, Iori, Phobus and more all contributing to the project while a optional file comes with it which is a OST for the entire megawad by Mr. Freeze.
What first stands out in Doom The Way I.D. Did is the mapping which follows the strict attention to detail that Romero, Peterson, and Hall all set in the original 3 episodes, and whats even more impressive is how the maps stand on their own with the detail vs the original maps, Ammo and health reflect the classic doom style with looking for secrets and traversing through poison, seeking out fake walls and looking to go outside of the map's normal routes for much needed ammo.
Difficulty is somewhat a slope and poor point of this megawad as similar to the twilight zone, its very easy even on Hurt Me Plenty and most maps don't really challenge the player except the last few of Episode 3, Its here that your ammo is harshly limited and you'll be needing to use careful health placement to make it out alive. Even though it is easy, I commend Doom The Way I.D. Did for starting, what I feel is a trend of making wads that throwback to the Classic Doom style of mapping in the modern times.
