I've seen some videos on this 9 level wad for Doom II but in my experience? Yes Mars War still remains the least inspired and most mediocre looking wad I've played yet on this show, but, This 2010 release almost dethrones it.


Released by Tails, Mario, and Howie, This is specially a clan wad, by the Doom Barracks Clan/Mapping team of Taiwan and Hong Kong, There's no story at all to Doom Barracks Zone and I don't think it would've helped much, as Doom Barracks Zone.. just hurts my eyes looking at it, The city level which is Map01 looks less quality vs city maps in early 2000's and 1990's wads.

Balance in Doom Barracks Zone? It's all over the place and very poorly placed, Map01 does to the credit have a room full of shotgun shells and also a room of medikits upstairs in the said building I first entered.. for balance right? New enemies are added including a Doomguy helmetless Marine who moves as fast as us and fires faster but the new enemies don't really give much of a challenge.

The bosses? I.. I don't know exactly where to start, They are 3 recolored variants of the Character Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog and a new Cyberdemon, they aren't really that hard to deal with and left me with a sense of deja vu with these custom bosses reminding me of the agonizing final boss from Doom Zero, Low effort and somewhat low quality boss that relies on enraging mechanic, I don't hate this wad like Fallout.Wad or Pro Doomer mod but for all the talk of it and the videos on it, I'm not a fan at all.
