1https://www.moddb.com/games/doom/addons/e1m1-hangar-remaster As I explained in season #12, every season from now on, the final 5 episodes of a season will reflect on the ones that had the biggest impact on me and the ones that caught my attention the most, So with this in mind, first up is this single level PWAD by Shot846.
Released on August 3rd 2018, This is a doom II wad which re-creates from scratch the iconic E1M1 map Hangar using new additions and staying true with only stock textures. I used the Brutal Doom mod because, well, I couldn't say no since there's a metal cover in here by Evil Ducky Production of the iconic "At Doom's Gate", Some wads that attempt to re-create the original levels of the doom games have fallen flat but wow, this one was a pleasant surprise.
The detail shown by Shot846 is undeniable and much better on the eyes vs the mess that is Knee-Deep in Zdoom with Shot846 maing custom voxels for the map, and, the overall layout feels like classic E1M1 but produced if it was made in the modern mapping era, and with it some new changes such as the two imps that spawn in on the way to the exit which got a bit dicey, the placement of items mimics well the original map's item placement and, for a 2018 wad it certainly has great quality all around to it.
