Doom Wads/Mods Rise Of The Revisits #16:Going Down
https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/gd Have I ever told you...about the definition of insanity? Perhaps I haven't but I think I've learned what it could be with this megawad which has been a staple for Halloween night every year for me and also on rainy nights, its one that still gives me nightmares not for the generalized concept but how it... is a wad that inflicts pain, anxiety, anger, and fear, I'm speaking of Going Down.
Authored by Cyriak Harris (Mouldy) who is also an animator on Youtube, Going Down was released on November 2nd 2014 and was honored as one of the winners of that year's cacoawards. The story is that something is going on at the UAC's office building in downtown where Doomguy lives, But the true horror is yet to come through 32 maps that are short and very tough, Going Down is among the hardest wads I've played which aren't slaughter wads and possibly near the same tier as Scythe II's last episode which is in hell.
What stands out for me is the soundtrack which was composed fully by Mouldy which has a certain threatening sound to it..but yet also a goofy sound with many organ notes for good measure so it feels like a bad dream this overall megawad as we blast our way through Offices, unfinished rooms and as we go further, hellish rooms and wow, around map26 we seem to suffer a complete mental breakdown and have some kind of paranoid state that blew. my. mind, it's by far one of my favorite map26's in a Player made megawad, Secret levels are weak but the last map with a sort of puzzle escape is one that'll you have to experience yourself to appreciate it.
[[I made a big mistake trying this wad on Ultra-Violence on day one I got it before I shot the original video, At times, as before, I underestimate exactly what I'm getting into and I paid the price as the sheer number of enemies on the first map left me with barely 10 bullets to face against an office of imps and zombiemen of all 3 types on map02, Yet looking back then these mistakes I made have helped me better prepare despite still underestimating some wads.
The last episode when we're entering the hellish part has stood out in my mind much like the Hell episode from Scythe II, The futuristic technical hell of TNT Revilution, and the rugged hell nature of Plutonia 2 because each one feels like a journey into madness. I'm stuck on Map28 currently as it approaches slaughter like but not truly slaughter in the sense. Similar to other wads I did in the first 3 seasons, I think it was my choice to tackle them despite never knowing of them is how I began to enjoy them more]]
