https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/scythe Does the phrase "Personal favorite" mean anything in the Doom Community? To me it does as there are bunch of wads and mods that I regularly play which have made an impact with me and stood out, and one of them placed 3rd in the final year of the top 100 wads of all time for 2003, It's a megawad that has had a sequel (which was named the 2nd most important wad ever) and continues to influence wad making today, It's name? Scythe.

The brainchild of Erik Alm, Scythe was released on April 10th, 2003, and has a basic storyline is which the demons are traveling to the past and the future from a time anomaly and it's up to us to find this anomaly and close it before entering hell to make the demons pay. Scythe is different from other megawads in that it's 3 episodes are map of short, small and intense maps that somewhat pose as combat puzzles while also being along the lines of pure Tyson runs.

Scythe is also a simple megawad in which it keeps the maps flowing from one to the next in terms of mapping style. Map31 is the only one that is not by Alm, rather it was contributed by guest mapper Torn (Kim Bach). Scythe's difficulty is another thing that's different as each episode's difficulty changes with the last one being for those who have adapted well to ultra-violence and slaughter akin to Plutonia Experiment's secret maps, with Fire and Ice taking me usually about 4 hours to clear on Hurt Me Plenty as embarrassing as it is to admit, Still Scythe is a legend in my eyes, any doom player out there should try it.

[[Scythe is among my most played wads, It was among the first wads I downloaded well back when as a teen and I still remember it well. As the first ever Megawad I finished back then it gave me a sense of accomplishment as I was determined to clear Fire and Ice the finale map even if it meant back then doing it on Hey Not Too Rough, And since then I've completed it about 26 times while trying to do it saveless and its not easy as you may think it is.

To be fair, At the time I began the original video for this megawad I had problems picturing it in my mind as sometimes I forgot about what I played, But when I saw the red bricks and grass, I knew it was Scythe, I personally between the 3 Scythe wads think that Scythe II was the one that cemented the status of Erik Alm as a Doom combat master but 2003's Scythe still remains to me as a personal favorite and one that will always be a influence to future mappers.]]
