Locked up in the safe in Shinra Mansion is not the Lost Number, but this...ugly monstrosity. I tried this battle on my first trip through the mansion, and I simply didn't have enough HP, plus the battle would have taken much longer with what I had then. So I decided to come back after doing the events at Wutai instead. I also grinded a bit outside of Wutai until I got Aerith's level 3 limit break, Planet Protector, which, in this mod, inflicts all of Barrier, MBarrier and Regen in one go instead of Peerless, like it does in vanilla. An extremely useful limit break that you'll see a lot more of in later battles.
Anywho, this is a pretty tough fight, and we need to be very careful here. There are two parts to this boss. Type C (the Cloud head) uses mainly physical attacks and some spells, while Type S (the Sephiroth head) uses mainly level 2 magic as well as Comet, Psudeen and Whispers, which inflicts Silence. Although both parts are weak to Ice, Type C is very resistant to physical attacks but weak to magic, while Type S is resistant to magic and takes more damage from physical attacks. Since there are two parts to this boss, we're going to be taking two attacks per turn. While Type S is the more dangerous of the two, we can't exactly kill him quickly, so instead, we go for Type C first instead. Ice 2 deals over 1500 damage to this part, which is nice, and ensures that it dies in just a few casts, from either counters or from direct casts. During this time, we also need to make sure we stay healed up as those spells from Type S hit pretty hard; we can rely on Magic Counter + Restore for that, or just use Geo Stance.
As far as killing Type S is concerned, that's going to take a little while because the thing is resistant to magic. Also, we still need to look out for those spells, especially Quake 2 and Comet, as well as Psudeen. Whispers we don't care about because of Aerith's Rune Armlet, which protects against silence. We also want to make sure we use Planet Protector and try to keep it active. I could've also used Big Guard for reflect status, but one, I'd have to keep recasting every couple of turns, and two, I'd be forced to use Hi-Potions to heal. Big Guard isn't really that great, and it's very situational.
