Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster - Ch. 19 - Second Prelude
The barrier around Exdeath's Castle had come down. So it was finally time for a showdown between our heroes and the game's central antagonist. Last time, we climbed the treacherous floors of Exdeath's Castle. There certainly were some tough baddies there. If you thought the Red and Yellow Dragons were tough, we'll be seeing Blue Dragons in this area, if we're unlucky. Did you get Carbuncle? This really is you're only chance at getting him, so you might not want to proceed without doing so. Anyway, I kind of cut things off before the real action got start. Are you ready for the conclusion of Exdeath's Castle?
CHAPTER 19 - SECOND PRELUDE
First thing's first, we're going to have a fourth (and possibly final?) fight against Gilgamesh, Exdeath's right-hand man. The Golem summon really comes in handy here, as many of Gilgamesh's attacks are physical. If you make sure you keep yourself covered Golem-wise, you can walk away from this fight without taking a hit. This go around, it took me a little longer than the practice rounds because he kept using that move which halves our level. Any way to cure that? But, if you keep hammering, he'll eventually start talking and you know it's getting close to the end.
So I walked out of that fight relatively unscathed, but definitely took a big hit MP-wise. So I went back to the save point and healed up. There's a room with two treasures off to the right-side of the room where we fought Gilgamesh. Up ahead is Exdeath. For both fights, I decided to split up my Red Mages and change them back to their respective Black/White Mage jobs. My Red Mage ability is still only at Level 3, so we wouldn't be able to use high-level magic like Thundaga or Curaga. It's not a bad idea to go into either fight with the whole party in Float status.
Exdeath is definitely tougher than Gilgamesh, but he's by no means impossible. You can use Golem to block physical attacks. I neglected to do this, but there's a part where he'll hammer you with high-level Black Magic. You can use Carbuncle here to cast Reflect on the whole party. He has over 32,000 HP and he can also use the same move which halves your level. So this one also took me a bit of time to pull off. Exdeath will eventually be beaten and the crystals will shatter. What's gonna happen now?
Well, you wake up in a field and it appears you're near Tycoon Castle. There's no where else for us to go, so we'll head inside and talk to the Chancellor. They commence to have a three-day celebration marking the return of Princess Sarisa (Faris). Bartz and Krile are just kinda standing off to the side while everyone dances. You can speak to Lenna or Faris at this moment, the dancers will keep getting in your way. Krile walks off and once you get control of Bartz, you should go after her. What's our new objective? Well, we don't know how we ended up back on Bartz's world.
So Krile and Bartz refocus and decide to leave Faris and Lenna behind, since there's no way they could leave right now. On the way out, a soldier tells us the bridge to the west is finally finished. We decide to head there and check on Bartz's chocobo, whom we left here like at almost the beginning of the game, lol. Back at the world map, the new party of two will not need to fear random battles in this area. You can walk all you want, no battles.
At the cave, we find Boko, who got busy with a lady chocobo and is now expecting chocobo kids. Boko rejoins us, which means we can now cross rivers. So you head back to Tycoon Castle and go North. Eventually you'll come to a spot on the map in which you enter and fall down a hole. Here, you'll encounter an Antlion, which is supposedly a boss fight. The Antlion has about 8-9,000 HP, so just use some high-level magic for a couple turns and it will flee. You're still trapped down in this hole though, but long story short, Faris comes and rescues you. Still no Lenna though.
You can head back to Tule if you really want to, but there's not much to do there. Someone in town mentions that there's a mutant turtle in a cave to the west. We head there and it's Ghido! Ghido explains that the two worlds have now merged. The splinter in Krile's hand is revealed to be... Exdeath?
Exdeath activates some sort of void, which opens up right at Castle Tycoon. Lenna's fate is uncertain.
Then Exdeath and Ghido engage in a Count Doku/Yoda style fight. We're blown away to a distant land once again, but it's near the Library of the Ancients, so it's cool. There we learn that the only way to beat Exdeath is to use the twelve legendary weapons used to kill 'Euon', another anonymously evil guy. Weird chapter, right?
