Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster - Ch. 4 - Sabin's Scenario Pt. 2 & Locke's Scenario
CHAPTER 4 - SABIN'S SCENARIO PT. 2 & LOCKE'S SCENARIO
So we left off after jumping into Barren Falls and washing up on shore of the Veldt. A mysterious wild-child approached us but then ran off. Now, you'll want to head southeast until you've cleared the mountains and then swing northeast to reach the town of Mobliz. Here, you'll speak with people who have also ran into Gau and you'll learn he likes Dried Meat. So before doing anything else, we'll go to the item shop and buy some. Now we'll head back to the world map and wait for Gau to show up again. He'll appear after a battle, but will run away if you attack him. Instead, just use the Dried Meat on him and watch the silly scene play out.
Now that Gau has joined, you'll be given a little tutorial of how to build-up his Rage ability. Here, I take a few minutes to gain a few Rages, most importantly the 'Templar' Rage. This Rage will allow Gau to cast 'Fira', which is very useful in the near-term. Now we'll head back to Mobliz and upgrade everyone's gear. As you talk to everyone, you'll learn that there's a wounded soldier from Maranda here. His morale is very low and the only thing keeping him going is the letters he gets from his girlfriend. This part is totally optional, but you can help him out a bit and mail a letter to his girlfriend for him.
The house next to his is essentially the post-office. The first guy you see here will offer to mail a letter for 500 gil. NOW, this is important because I actually missed this in my GBA walkthrough: in order for the soldier to receive a response, you'll have to talk to the guy standing to the right of the post-office. He'll ask if you know about the Serpent Trench, say no. A little scene will show the world map pan over from the Serpent Trench to Nikeah. After this, head back to the soldier's house and you'll find a letter on the desk. Read it to him and then continue the cycle: read the letter to the soldier, pay the post office to send something, talk to the Serpent Trench guy and say 'no'.
It's a little annoying because you'll have to repeat this cycle like four or five times, but the soldier won't get a response unless you speak to the Serpent Trench guy and say 'no'. Eventually the soldier will thank you and give you the 'Tintinnabulum', a relic that heals your HP as you walk. This comes in handy as you don't have a magic user currently. The Serpent Trench guy mentions that if you had a diving helmet, you could go to Nikeah, but the helmet was stolen. Gau mentioned that he has a 'shiny' treasure that he wants to give you at the Crescent Mountain. It all comes together.
Head south to the cave. Here, you'll see little light-brown squares. When you step on each, a little dialogue will be triggered. You really only need to go to the one on the lower-right, which has the helmet. You'll then automatically go and jump in the Serpent Trench. It'll ask you twice which way you want to go. Select 'Right' both times and you'll reach a couple caves with two treasures: an X-Potion and a Green Beret. Afterwards, you'll end up on the docks of Nikeah. You can go right ahead and speak with the guy on the boat and head to South Figaro, or you can explore the town a bit.
If you go to the bar, a funny scene will play out with a lady who hits on Cyan. She asks him if he likes her boobs, which she named Humpty and Dumpty. Anyway, once you set the sail, the scenario ends. Now we'll choose Locke's scenario. This one is pretty quick. Locke needs to escape from South Figaro, but all the exits are blocked. But there's two secret passages in town: one leads to the rich guy's house and the other leads out of town. You'll need to pick a fight with either a merchant, or a green-suit soldier and steal from them in order to also steal their clothes.
Depending on your outfit, you can access or unlock different parts of the town. You'll need to find the merchant with the cider and steal both, then take it to the old man, who will try to tell you the password for the secret passage. It's 'Courage'. Now at the rich guy's house, you'll want to head to the secret area behind the bookcase in the rich guy's bedroom. Check you map in this area, as there is a door on the bottom that is easy to miss. Here you'll find two treasures: a Hyper Wrist and an Hermes Sandals. Now, proceed to the doors on the right in the prior area. You'll be introduced to Celes.
Celes is an Imperial General but opposes the actions Kefka took in Doma, so she's going to be executed for treason. Locke helps her escape and now they'll head to the cave northwest from South Figaro. It's the same one we did earlier, only now you'll face a boss at the end: Tunnel Armor. Tunnel Armor has 1300 HP and can cast magic. Use Celes' Runic ability, but honestly it won't take much to beat this boss. Once you exit the cave, Locke's scenario is done!
