About this video: This video is an in-depth review of GGServers. GGServers is a Minecraft server hosting company that has a few different offerings. Specifically, they have premium servers and standard/budget Minecraft servers, and in this video, we will be looking at both options and answer the question of should you buy a GGServers Minecraft server. So, let’s go ahead and review GGServers!
The first thing we are going to look at with GGServers is ease of use. The purchase process at GGServers was straight forward and the same for both premium and standard servers. They also have a helpful guide on the difference between standard and premium right on the package page which we like to see. At GGServers, I would recommend the premium package for the higher-end hardware provided. We will be testing both today though. As far as ease-of-use on the Multicraft panel, it isn’t bad. The design of the GGServers panel is clean and looks good, and it has a lot of cool features like being able to change the MOTD and server icon right from Multicraft.
After ease of use, let’s look at the GGServers user guides. I like user guides to be relevant and accessible right in the Multicraft dashboard. That isn’t the case here. However, they do have at the bottom of the sidebar to the knowledge base which is nice that when you click it allows you to search their knowledge base. You can click to view the entire knowledge base where you will be able to sort by category. Here, Articles are displayed by popularity which is nice. As far as videos go, I would say about one in every three help articles had videos. Overall, GGServers has one of the better knowledge bases I have seen.
Moving on to support at GGServers, they have amazing support. There response time was super fast, and the have 24/7 live chat support. Overall, GGServers support was very good, helpful, and knowledgeable.
Up next, we are looking at GGServers’ hardware. On the standard plan at GGServers, you will have an Intel Xeon E5-1630 v4 @ 3.70GHz with 2133 MHz DDR4 RAM. The premium plan is where GGServers’ hardware really shines. With that plan, you will get an Intel Core i7-7700K @ 4.20GHz with 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM. This is a great CPU and hardware combo for Minecraft.
As far as modpacks go, GGServers supports over 90 modpacks. Some modpacks do require more RAM than others, so check this before purchasing. This puts them middle of the road as far as server hosts go.
In regards to price, GGServers is right with other hosting companies. Their standard plan is lower priced, and their premium fairly priced. Remember though that you get what you pay for hardware wise on the standard plan.
Server locations at GGServers are different depending on the plan as well. For standard, you can choose NA or EU. That’s it. For Premium though, you have 9 locations options with 3x in North America, 5x in Europe, 1x in Asia, and 1x in Australia.
Now, what are the downsides of GGServers? Well, there aren’t many downsides with their the premium hosting at GG servers. The hardware is good, and it has plenty of features. I would recommend against the standard budget plans though because your experience there will be laggier. You could try just a small vanilla server on standard, but any more would be pushing it.
Two other areas that GGServers kind of falls behind the top of the Minecraft Hosting industry is modpack support and server locations. Some of the top hosts are now support and keeping up-to-date one click install for over 200 modpacks. GGServers has less than half that.
Overall though, GGServers is a good option to look at for server hosting, and we give them a 4.25 out of 5. This rating was brought down by the modpacks and locations as well as the fact that their ‘premium’ servers are priced higher than other hosts with the same hardware by a few bucks.
