Golden Age of Racing (2006) - Every PC F1 Game
Golden Age of Racing by Brain In A Jar/Midas Interactive, 2006.
Developer Brain In A Jar had a fairly rough ride, once they were ejected from the IndyCar Series games, which they were making for Codemasters. They took their engine and reused it in a number of games, such as Euro Rally Champion, Sprint Car Challenge and more. They also used the engine for this game, which is based on classic 1960s Grand Prix racing (a bit like Grand Prix Legends, but more arcadey). You can even see the IndyCar logo still as an icon for the game!
There's no real life circuits in this game, so the ones listed below are just what I was trying to recreate the feeling of...
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Graphics in this game are nice, but a bit basic. They like their shiny wheels! Interestingly (not shown here) this is one of the few games that leaves gravel on the track, should you go a bit wide, which can prove slippery on following laps!
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:30 There's no wet weather in this game, so here's some dry weather running instead.
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:48 This city circuit looks nice at sunset. But there's no tunnel!
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:00 There's a few slightly Eau Rouge moments in this game. Note that the wing mirrors don't work at all :-p
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:19 Pitstops do nothing, no damage fixed (wobbly wheel).
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:31 Crashes can be enormous, and, unlike the IndyCar Series games, they don't cut away quickly! There's little car damage though, just wobbly wheels, and you can keep racing, even from crashes like this! The computer controlled cars can be easily flipped. One negative shown here though: the car's shadow is built into the bottom of the car, so you can see it stuck to the car as it rolls back onto the gravel!
