Hisoutensoku: How to Pressure [Pressure Basics/Intermediate]
Subtitles are advised to more easily understand what is being discussed
Well, this took me a few... years to complete but "better late than never" as people tend to say.
Lot of stuff was left on the "Cutting Room Floor" so to speak, as some of the material that I want to discuss further regarding pressure tends to get more complex and out of the "Basics" space; I'll get around it eventually, especially because I'm not going to get AS artsy as I got with this one. That made making this video A LOT HARDER...
Anyhow, let's talk about the video; this time around I go through explaining the general "fundamental logic" you want to apply or even just understand when it comes down to applying Pressure in Hisoutensoku. Mostly the Corner type as Midscreen Pressure is generally a lot harder to setup even when it's more or less fundamentally the same thing.
I'm not 100% satisfied with this video but truth be told, this is the nature of the beast as Hisoutensoku is always requiring A LOT of context to be easily understood but you simply cannot nor want to setup a video with an infinitely expanding web of "contextes" to explain one thing... I mean, it's why I'm going at it video by video and letting people "complete the puzzle" via using the tools I'm (trying) explaining and showcasing; ultimately I enjoyed making all the graphics and cutscenes, as I used the video as a bit of an excuse to "exercise" a bunch of different things, though it made the video a real "Tour de Force" and made the actual work necessary to complete it... more or less infinite? Well it's over now so... Yipee and all that!
Fun bit on that actually: I have an entire "Intermezzo (Cutscene)" just kind of... dead on the floor, unused, same with a bunch of script for an entire extra chapter. As I said, I'll probably find a way to repurpose that but man, I wrote the script and made the graphics and prepared a buncha stuff and it's simply... unused, taking space and dust. Wild!
Enough of that for now; allow me to close this unprompted rant by making a FAQ for the "missing bits" that I simply couldn't go over in the video or that required context I could not provide at this Junction.
\[1] What about when my opponent BEs?/
Do not hit your opponent all the time with them big blockstunny 6A/3As or avoid being predictable with repeating the same high/lows.
I could not cover this aspect of pressure because while BE spots are easily readable (refer to "Defense Basics"), you can rarely, easily stop a BE once you give the opponent the Window of Opportunity; the best "counter" to a BE is to simply not give the chance in the first place.
Truth be told there are "ways" but again, they go beyond the "basics" funny enough.
\[2] Do I really need to learn Framedata for the most basic offense?/
Surprisingly yes.
In Soku the baseline is uniquely hypercomplex due to the nature of the game's System. There is no easy way to break guard thus the only way is learning how to setup Frametraps and strong "Guard Crushes". At most levels you can get away with doing some basic staggers but "on paper", if you want to do really good pressure, this is the only way...
\[3] What about Air Pressure?/
It's more or less the same but with only one action: You either do J5A into Bullet Extension or J5A - J6A/J8A as a Movement Check... There are... OTHER things you can do but I ain't yanking yer chain, it's just beyond the basics... again!
\[4] My character can't Bullet Extend!?/
Everyone can but the approach to it may not be as simple as pressing the Bullet Button.
Best advice I can give is that, if your character is seemingly unable to Extend Pressure via Projectiles, try to Stagger your pressure into a sudden IA Projectile of some kind, usually
that helps.
This is less "Advanced" and more of a mix of "Advanced" and "Character Specific"... Quite fun!
Well, that's all from me for today; I hope you have a great day and I'll see you next time... Bye bye!
