Now, at this point, I do want to mention in order to get plugins on your Minecraft server, you will need to have a Spigot or Paper server setup for 1.16.2. Why is this? Well, only Spigot and Paper servers can have plugins installed on them. Luckily, we have an in-depth guide on creating your own Paper Minecraft server linked in the description above. If you have a vanilla Minecraft server, setting up a Paper server is as easy as replacing your .jar file. If you don’t have a Minecraft server at all though, our tutorial covers every single step.
Once you have your Minecraft plugins downloaded and your Paper server setup, it is time to learn how to install plugins on a Minecraft server in 1.16.2! This process is actually very easy. Just open up your server’s main folder where the EULA.txt and .jar files are located. Here, you will see a ‘plugins’ folder. If you don’t see a plugins folder, you don’t have a Spigot or Paper server. You need to create one. After finding the plugins folder, double click on it. Now, just drag-and-drop any plugins you want to install in 1.16.2 into this folder. It’s that easy to add plugins to a Minecraft server.
Restart your server, and the plugins will activate. If you go back to the plugins folder, you will find folders for all of the plugins you have installed. In these folders, you will find all of the config files for all of the plugins. You can edit these to customize your Minecraft server and make it feel more like your own.
