About this video: In this video, I show you how to add mods to a Minecraft server in 1.16.2. Specifically, we show you how to install Forge mods of a Minecraft 1.16.2 server. The reason we use Forge mods is because Forge has all of the mods popular 1.16.2 mods. From Just Enough Items to Tinker’s Construct to minimaps, they all use Forge to be able to run correctly in Minecraft 1.16.2. Thus, adding Forge mods to a server makes the most sense. Nevertheless, without any more delay, here is how to add mods to a server in Minecraft 1.16.2!
The first step of getting mods on a Minecraft server is actually setting up the correct type of Minecraft server. In order to get a Forge server, you will need to go through our tutorial on making a modded Minecraft server in the description above. That will show you everything that you need to know in order to make your very own 1.16.2 Forge server. After you have that server setup, you will also need to install Forge locally, we have our local Forge tutorial linked above as well.
Now that you have a Forge server and Forge installed on your computer, we can finally learn how to install mods on a Minecraft server in 1.16.2. First things first though, you will need to find some 1.16.2 mods. In the description above, we have a few 1.16.2 mods linked, but we also have a list of awesome mods for 1.16.2 that you can check out. No matter what mods you want, they will all be installed the exact same way as long as they are for 1.16.2.
Once you have your mods downloaded, it is time to install mods on a Minecraft server in 1.16.2! To do this, just open up your Forge server folder, find the mods folder, and now, drag-and-drop any mods that you want to install into this mods folder. If you don’t have a mods folder, you don’t have a Forge server and need to go over our tutorial linked above to get one. With the mods in your mods folder, you can restart your 1.16.2 server, and the mods will load up on it.
However, if you try to join your server, you won’t be able to. This is because you need to install the mods locally as well. To do this, open up Minecraft 1.16.2 with Forge, click on the ‘mods’ button on the Minecraft main menu, and then click ‘open mods folder’ in the bottom right. Now, copy and paste all mods you want on your server into this folder as well. Restart Minecraft with Forge, and you will be able to join your server. Anyone who you want to play on your modded Minecraft server must also have the mods installed on their Minecraft, so be sure to make a list so your friends can get the mods.
