How to Fix PS5 Not Connecting to TV (Black Screen or No Signal)
To fix a PS5 not connecting to a TV, showing a blank screen, or displaying no signal, follow these steps:
Check HDMI Cable and Port:
Ensure the HDMI cable is securely connected to the PS5 and TV. Use the high-speed HDMI cable included with the PS5.
Test with another HDMI cable to rule out a faulty one.
Try a different HDMI port on the TV, ideally one labeled HDMI 2.1 or ARC.
Power Cycle Devices:
Turn off the PS5 completely by holding the power button until it beeps twice, then unplug it for 1-2 minutes.
Turn off and unplug the TV for 1-2 minutes.
Reconnect and power on both, starting with the TV, then the PS5.
Verify TV Input Source:
Use the TV remote to select the correct HDMI input, such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 2, matching the port used.
Ensure the TV is set to auto-detect active inputs if applicable.
Adjust PS5 Video Settings in Safe Mode:
Turn off the PS5, then press and hold the power button until a second beep, about 7 seconds, to enter Safe Mode.
Connect the controller via USB and press the PS button.
Select Change Video Output or Change Resolution, set to 1080p or Automatic, or choose Reset Video Settings.
Restart the PS5 to check the display.
Check TV Compatibility:
Confirm your TV supports the PS5’s output, like 4K at 60Hz or 120Hz for HDMI 2.1. Older TVs may not handle higher resolutions.
Go to PS5 Settings, Screen and Video, Video Output, and disable 4K Video Transfer Rate or set Resolution to 1080p to test.
Disable HDCP:
In Safe Mode, select Disable HDCP to fix issues with certain TVs or HDMI splitters.
Restart the PS5 and test the display.
Test with Another TV or Monitor:
Connect the PS5 to a different TV or monitor. If it works, the issue may be the original TV’s HDMI port or settings.
Update PS5 System Software:
In Safe Mode, select Update System Software, then Update Using Internet to install the latest firmware, which can fix connectivity issues.
Alternatively, update via PS5 Settings, System, System Software, System Software Update and Settings if accessible.
Check for Hardware Issues:
Inspect the PS5’s HDMI port for bent pins or debris. Avoid forcing the cable.
Bypass any HDMI switch or extender by connecting directly to the TV, as these can disrupt the signal.
Reset PS5:
In Safe Mode, select Reset PS5 to restore factory settings. Choose Reset and Keep My Games & Apps to preserve data.
Reconfigure video settings after resetting.
