1. Adjust PS5 Video Settings
Go to PS5 home screen, select Settings via gear icon top-right.
Choose Screen and Video, then Video Output.
Set Resolution to match your TV or monitor, such as 4K or 1080p, ensuring TV supports it.
Adjust Refresh Rate: Set to 60Hz or 120Hz if your display supports it and game is compatible.
Enable Variable Refresh Rate VRR under Video Output if your TV supports HDMI 2.1 VRR, but note VRR may cause stuttering in some games after 20 minutes, like The Last of Us or Elden Ring. If stuttering occurs, disable VRR in this menu.
Under HDR tab, set to Automatic or disable if TV doesn’t support 4K HDR to avoid grayed-out options.
2. Check Game Settings
Launch game, go to its Settings or Options menu.
Switch to Performance Mode if available, prioritizing frame rate over resolution, as Resolution Mode can cause stuttering in heavy scenes.
Toggle V-Sync if offered, like in Outer Wilds hotfix, but note V-Sync may increase stuttering in some cases.
If so, disable it.
Cap frame rate if game allows, especially for open-world titles like Far Cry 6 or Warframe, to match your TV’s refresh rate, such as 60Hz.
3. Verify HDMI Connection
Use included HDMI 2.1 cable for best performance, supporting 4K 120Hz.
Try a different HDMI cable if issues persist, as faulty cables can cause tearing.
Connect PS5 directly to TV or monitor’s HDMI port, bypassing soundbars or receivers.
Switch to another HDMI port on TV, ensuring it’s HDMI 2.1 for 120Hz games. Select correct HDMI channel on TV.
For 120Hz, set 4K Transfer Rate to -2 in Video Output settings if tearing occurs, as seen with Samsung Q900R TVs.
